The girl's name Tess is a variant of Teresa, Tessa and Theresa.

The baby name Tess sounds like Tessy, Tesa and Tessi.
Tess is a popular female first name and an uncommon surname

It can be, or it can stand on its own. I knew a girl named Tesse, and it wasn't short for anything. I also new a girl named Tessa, she always went by tessa, but I suppose she could have also been called tess for short...

Yes, it can be short for a few things, mainly: Teresa, Tess or Thessaly.
Hope that helps! :)

Could be, like "Tessa" or "Contessa".

I've also heard it just the way it is, it was a stripper's name. LOL

...but that doesn't mean anything bad necessarily, look at all the Destiny's and the like.

Choose whatever name you like, there are boundless ideas floating out there.
