Wow. Yes they are a rivalry. It doesn't matter about the championships, it matters on how often they play and the passion between them.

Yes, the Yankees are more dominant, but by your standards, there would be no current rival for the Yankees.

I can't believe you asked that. The Red Sox may not have the championships due to poor management (at times), bad luck, and less money than the Yankees, but they do have possibly the most loyal fans in all of sports (Cubs fans calm down). This fan loyalty and undying hatred of the Yankees combined with the ********* and brash attitudes of Yankee fans has created a fire that will never burn out. The types of people that live in the cities of Boston and New York are bound to butt heads due to the fact that these port cities are completely different despite being in such close proximity. The Yankees and Red Sox just provide the means to express these differences. You need to look no further than the look of each ball club as they take the field. The Red Sox are a dirty, unshaven, long haired, goofy team with baggy pants and du-rags. The Yankees are all uniform with their pinstripes and short hair. The teams embody the cities they signify. All you need to do is ask a Yankee fan about 2004 and you know that even with all the championships, the Red Sox possess one that can stand out in its remarkableness and uniqueness. It rejuvenated the rivalry and added an unexpected dimension. Sure the Yankees historically hold the advantage, but right now New York is in trouble and Boston can see another championship in its near future.

Maybe if you live under the polar ice cap you could legitimately ask this question. Go to the Stadium, if you can get tickets, when Boston is in town if you doubt it's a rivalry. For that matter just set foot in New England when the Red Sox are playing the hated Yankees. And no matter how much the Red Sox are scuffling or how large their lead, the team that Red Sox fans are focused on is the Yankees. Fortunately they are well back in the rear view mirror this year.

Since when does a rivalry have anything to do with how many championships are won. Last time I checked, the RED SOX and yanks don't play each other in the World Series (where the championships are won)...

The only thing you bandwagon spankies fans can say is the titles they've won...no class.

yes its a real rivalry. who could forget when the yankees blew a 3-0 lead in the 2004 playoffs and the red sox came back and won the alcs and the world series.

Sure they are. Even when the Yankees wind up in last place this year it will still be fun to watch the Sox go into the World Series.

yes. the yanks and sox is a real rivalry. the history undoubtedly shows the yanks to be the superior in this, but that's really not whats being fucosed on whenever these two teams play. it's a rivalry because every time they get together everything changes. people's attitudes, the adrenaline etc.. and there's always something dramatic. i mean every time. so yeah, it is a genuine rivalry. and if you dont believe me, ask any red sox fan who their least favorite team is or vice versa. it's for real.

i would say no, but for a different reason, half the players on the yankees would still play if they had to play for the red sox, and vice versa, its nothing like a college rivalries, where some of the players would rather jump off a bridge than play for a rival team, and equality is nothing, cowboys, 5 super bowls, eagles, 2 nfl titles, but they are rivals, real rivals, no, but still rivals, although, the cowboys havent beaten the eagles once this year

trust me its a rivalry each year the both teams want what one team can only have and they Yankees compete each year to win the AL east and when they go to the playoffs its always the alcs so at that time its to go the ws so a great rivalry

A true rivalry has nothing to do with the numbers. I guarantee you the Sox know how far they are behind on the numbers and that only adds fuel to the fire.
