So, if we all agree that the polls are skewed, should we simply discard the polling practice?

I don't care for polls no matter who they favor. The results are usually only whatever the person doing the polls wants them to be anyway. I simply ignore polls.

Most polls are actually pretty accurate, well looked at as a whole. The problem is when people look at one particular poll to support an argument they make, or when the polls show opinion is very close. It is an inexact science, but it has statistical validity to it.

Some polling practices aren't skewed, but they are just as unreliable as statstics. nothing to be taken as serious references, since they can, afterall, say whatever the poller wants you to infer.
but, if the poll is conducted on 100 people and a statement is made about only that 100 people, they can be accurate.
the problem is, when people make claims about 3 million people based on a poll of 1000 people.

BTW most of those links you referred us to are broken.

Polls are about as accurate as statistics , either one can be skewered to suit the purpose of the one taking it. Sort of like the accuracy of computer solutions , only as accurate as the person putting the information in and no more . (or as intelligent )

I doubt the polls are really for the people who like politics. I think the polls are for the people who pay for them.

It'll never happen. The 'pollster' reporters show up at all different hours of the day.

I love the pollster reporters.
