Living in Japan, I can at least speak for what I see here. Japanese culture is not a culture of whiners... if they're knocked down, they get up, brush themselves off, and get back to work. Their work ethic is *incredible*. They don't want to be supported, they want to support themselves and their families. They don't go around acting as if the world "owes" them something.
I think the whole bloody world could learn a lesson from them, as they are today!

I believe it has a lot to do with culture. Though I wouldn't just point out asians, or completely discredit latino's either. For instance, Cubans are renowned for their work-ethic, and tend to run start-up businesses much in the same fashion as asians.
I almost laughed out loud when a poster above me mentioned that asians hadn't had to deal with the same imperial presence in their nations. Just China for an example: Ever heard of 'Spheres of Influence'? Where the west, Europe in particular, divided the whole nation up amongst themselves? Or oppression of even other Asiatic peoples (IE. Japan pre-war and durring World War II?). For the most part, Asians have had to deal with WORSE dictators and oppressive govts. than those in South and Central America. That seems to be why they work so hard when they get here - they appreciate it more.
But like I said, it's cultural. They respect and value a good education and high-paying jobs. They want BETTER for their children then what they had. A few of my black friends hate the fact that if they go back to the neighborhood they get less respect for their diplomas than they would if they had just completed a jail sentence. If minorities want to succeed, there has to be a fundemental change in their priorities. Asians recognize that, and have thus succeeded.

what a childish, racist, question full of ******** stereotypes
This question says more about you then anything.
Oprah winfrey is black, Condelesa Rice, Colin Powell also. what about Ellen Ochoa the Astonaut, Bernardo Houssay the scientist etc.
The whole asians do well is a stereotype, some do some don't it is based upon their culture where "in General" The asian culture has a different work ethic, that is not so say that other minorities don't have a strong work ethic. However minorities in western countries have suffered a great deal of oppression and racism, and what ever racists like you think have not traditionaly had the opportunities of the typical white american.
Also the stereo type about asians is based upon asians who are first or second generation Asians not those who have been asimilated into western culture which again says more about the west than it does any race.
Also the Asians that you see over here ar a very small sample. If you were to visit Asia you find a huge amount of illiterate people so what you say would be laughable if it weren't so racist and offensive

Generally speaking, the Asian community doesnt sit around making excuses or blaming others for events that occured 100+ yrs ago, they just work hard and get what comes to them. People from India that move here are the same way- hard workers that do not complain and they typically are pretty successful and are willing to make necessary sacrifices.

I think they don't really like it when we talk about this...
It probably comes down to a cultural work ethic. Don't ask me how to produce that, I'm having fun trying to instill it in my own child.

simple, they don't pull the race card!
they know the only way to gain respect and get ahead is hard work.
if anyone from any race works hard and earns what they have people will have no choice but to respect them.
