Lately I've been wanting to just sit down and draw. But, once I get to the sit down part, nothing comes to mind!

Any ideas please?

I find that people I know who draw a lot will often take scratch paper and draw parts of things. Hands, feet, faces. Cubes, trees, mountains. Doodly curves.

Why do you want to sit down and draw? You may find that by exploring that, you will find what you actually want to draw.

Sometimes, it's easier to get the proportion right by taking a photo and drawing it. Take one of your favorite pictures and turn it into a drawing... or the newspaper, or a magazine.... or something off the web.

I've even heard that some people get their 'drawing drive' out of their system by sitting down and coloring in an entire sheet of paper with pencil. I'm not sure that they actually got a picture out of it, but they said it was soothing and calming. And cleared their mind for what they wanted to concentrate on (usually another picture, but they didn't feel the urgency that was distracting them from their muse).

Hmm, it appears there's a small artist's block going on. ^..^ Usually, it takes time to allow it to dissipate, but there are a few known ways to spark inspiration.
Try looking out the window into a bunch of tree branches, clouds, grass. Or on the inside, leather, a rug, a wall, sponge. Look at them and instantaneously think about what sort of image they make. Sort of like ink-blot tests. If any of them strike you as especially lovely, try drawing it in your own little twist.
Another way is taking markers, turning on the radio to your favorite station, song, artist, whatever, and getting out a piece of paper and scribbling while listening to the music. It's good if you keep it in one general theme so you can get the same result instantaneously as well as five minutes ago. When you're done randomly scribbling, try looking at it and making a picture out of certain scribble lines with a lightbox or window. If you don't have a lightbox or you're doing it at night, you should use pencil instead of markers.

You could need sleep. Usually, when people need sleep, their imaginative juices just kind of overflow and then shorten for a while.

Another way that I get rid of artists' block is looking at some of my favorite artists' work and trying to figure out exactly how they /do/ it so darned well. Then I try to spark my interests by working on the same theme/concept/etc as the artist that I am looking at, and it takes a whole different turn in my own drawing.

Also, if you get a good book that gives lots of food for thought, while you evaluate the thoughts that the book gave you, you may stumble upon some /great/ ideas of your own in whatever form you may draw in. It could be emotional, spiritual, physical, or mental. The beauty of it is that it varies quite a bit.

Try getting your body into a beat and listening to lots of music, but don't listen to the same thing over and over again. Really listen to the tune and the lyrics and think about what the artist is trying to get across, and a lot of times, that breaks my block and gets those creative juices flowing.

You could also think of a funny scene from a movie or a comic book and improvise it to fit your own characters or writing style to come up with your own comic.

Well, I hope these solutions work for you. They most certainly work for me, and I know none of us are the same, but I think I gave enough options that at least one of them would give your imagination a little push into being artsy. It'd drive me insane if this block would go on for a long time. I hope you haven't reached that point yet. ^..^'''

Enjoy drawing. :]

One thing i like to do is the start drawing without any ideas whatsoever. Just put lines down on the paper- long continuous ones, boxes, cylinders, cross marks, wherever your hand goes. Sometimes it turns into an abstract picture and sometimes it'll start to resemble a realistic subject.

What are you most fond of: plants, a favorite dog, cat, gerbil. Do you like lighthouses, trees, people?

Maybe you should start by jotting down a list of your favorite things. Then you could work on drawing what you love.

If you are still stumped, open one of your favorite art books and attempt to copy an artist whom you admire.

i love to draw birds, dolphins, faces, and flowers. but it is really up to you. draw what inspires you like your role model or nature. it really depends on who you are. when you draw faces, try to capture the feeling in the face through their expression. hope this helps! ;)
