I think the government should take over heroin distribution in the UK.Make it so cheap, free perhaps that it wont be worth criminals gangs getting in on it.Junkies wont be forced to whore themselves out,rob your house or steal your car, because they`ll be sitting at home, drooling on their navel,on free govt. smack
This cuts crime at a stroke, freeing the police to search out the real crimes, pedophiles, murders and motorist doing 7mph over the speed limit

You make a lot of good points, but unfortunately your attitude actually aids the criminals.

In the nineteenth century most of the drugs were not illegal, and Britain fought a war with China over opium trade. As I understand it the British wanted to supply the Chinese with opium, but the Chinese were having none of it and kicked the British out. Today the reward for drug dealing in China is a bullet in the back of the head.

The Government s always reluctant to relinquish a source of revenue, so the chances are that if they could have done they would have done so, and now it is not politically acceptable for them to do so.

As long as there are people saying 'Why can't they? Why shouldn't I' then there are people willing to supply the market. I have been informed by the police that if they take out a dealer, his pitch is replaced within 24 hours.

You seem to think it is a harmless relaxation, that may or may not be so, but the fact remains, many of the drugs do ruin health, are addictive and they are not sold to the healthy and wealthy but to the vulnerable and people with deep emotional problems. The effect on society is devastating.

A drug running quango may be an idea, but really the best way is for ordinary people just to say 'NO', but so long as people are saying, 'OK' and 'why not?' then the criminals are going to have a field day

initially, no longer all people who're against smoking want it to proceed to be legal. i do no longer see why, logically, cigarettes and alcohol are legal and marijuana is unlawful. Marijuana, in simple terms like alcohol, is addictive to a pair human beings, mutually as many human beings can savour sparsely. And it relatively is far less risky and addictive than cigarettes. Now, i in my view do no longer want to apply marijuana, for various motives: I actual have a relatives historic previous of psychological ailment, so i do no longer want to hazard triggering something with psychoactive drugs. I actual have a relatives historic previous of habit (I infrequently drink, for a similar reason). I actual have bronchial asthma, and that i do no longer intend to make it worse with smoking. I actual have a job that does random drug tests. And, i think spacey adequate because it relatively is, without chemical interference.

Because they are harmful to your health, they are very addictive, if taken over a long period of time they can damage your brain, also a lot of drugs aren't pure and could harm you. People have died from taking dodgy drugs that were mixed with other things, people have ended living on the streets because of their addiction, committing crimes, prostitution to pay for their habit and people have died from overdosing etc. It would be a very bad idea to legalise it. Plus you would get a lot more people taking it and some people would think it was alright to do this. The NHS would be full up with druggies. It would be a very bad idea.

The issue is the user gets so caught up with using, they stop working and making money the legal way, but then still want the drugs. So to get money, they commit crimes to pay for the drugs.

I think most people don't care if they made it all legal and if you want, use whatever you want. But we all see the same problem would still happen in the end. You would not be able to find a legal way to work and make money and would turn to crime to pay for your addiction.

this is a good question. I've never understood why some drugs are legal and others are not. Legalizing and regulating the drugs that are now illegal would destroy the black market but I seriously doubt if lawmakers will listen at this point.

short sightedness.taxability options not seen. pharmeceutical companies want control of drug markett.is legal to push drugs on people if you are a psychiatrist so if drug dealers went to school aquired the necessary credentials wrote a book in which they argued heroin was good for patients sucessfully then it would be perfectly legal to proscribe just like Ritalin. so there are legal drug pushers and illegal ones. if it become legal then the drugs will be sold by large drug companies.

They are not just hurting themselves.
These laws are not just for the people who take the drugs, but for thier families that they come home and abuse. For their friends who they drag in. For the stranger who gets killed. Drinking should be against the law too. Smoking is less likely to hurt other but it can still damage others, for example: when children breath in the fumes from a parents cigarret.
If you care about anyone but yourself, stay off.

cos of general ignorance...

if a drug dealer wants ot make a fast buck he is nto gonna care if u have a bad reaction to the drug or not.. so he will tell u anything. and people will believe... they wont research it first.. so making it illegal gets the message across easily that it is dangerous!
