I'd say try out for defensive back. It should be easier to learn than pass receiver, since you won't have to learn running routes. You've got size and speed, and if you really are willing to hit and be hit, you could do well; your ability to catch the ball could lead to interceptions which would really help your team.

You will also have less competition than at WR, probably. There is also a chance that if you start out trying to be WR but can't get the hang of running routes, the coaches will make you switch to DB -- and you'll have lost however much time that takes, learning DB.

Probably, your first year, you will play mostly on special teams anyway, covering kicks and punts. Have fun with it, and good luck!

I'm wondering, are you going to the USA from a different country? If so, do you play soccer? If yes, consider kicker and learn how to both place kick and punt an American style football.

You say university. If it is a major university, your physical attributes are nearly to the level of those for a receiver or in the defensive secondary, not for a starter, more for a practice player, like in the movie "Rudy". The lack of any real playing experience will be a major barrier for even being accepted as what is called a "walk on". If you plan to go to a small college, you might have a better chance at walking on. If you have the college or university picked out where you intend to attend, you might just call the coach. I was in college football and I recall filling out a questionnaire that asked info like football playing experience, 40 speed, and max out amounts in weight lifting. Someone might mail one of those to you.

American football is not as complicated as soccer but there are many nuances to it and it takes some time and experience to learn them. You might not play for an intercollegiate team but there are intramural teams at most colleges and universities. Those are nearly always either 2 hand touch or flag football, not tackle football with the full pads and helmets. You will likely have opportunities to play that. Good luck.

I would say that if you're good at catching, you're probably good at swatting. Also, if you're fast and can take hits you should be a cornerback. You can get more credit for catching than you would being a reciever and you don't need to follow a designated route, just follow whoever you're covering.

Try out for your high school team if you can, the coaches will see what suits you and stick you in a position. Try some flag football teams to see if you can catch under pressure.

well how do you know you can catch, or take a hit, or hit if you have no experience. I played plenty of catch and neighborhood ball and i was good i dominated actually but when i got to camp it was different. things move faster harder and if your jumping from nothing to colledge ball you might be in for a rude awakening

Wide receiver you can work on routes, you can't teach speed.
