normally to qualify for an olympic sport, the sport has to be popular and played in many different regions in the world. American style football is normally only associated as being played in North America.

Because we in Europe don't even know we rules of this game. And if it would be an Olympic sport just few countries compete in American Footbal... We Lithuanians say that Basketball is the best...

Because you have to put the qualifier "American" in front of it. Football to the rest of the world is Soccer in the US. Football as we in the states know it is pretty much only played in the US, and until it becomes more international, it won't be in the olympics.

If we put American football in the olympics, where do we stop, there would have to be Australian Rules and Gaelic Football in there aswell.

because it need to be in more country then America
there is as much change of Amercian football as to Aussie rules been in the Olympics.

yeah, it just isn't popular enough "world wide" to make it an olympic sport. i'm sure there is criteria that specifies when an event can be added (i read that one such criteria is that its played on atleast 3 different continents).

Because we are pretty much the only country that plays the game. And the NFL just cut NFL Europe, because it was not doing very well.

Because it is obvious that America would total dominate in the sport and all the other countries would heavily lack with giving us competition, so basically it's because other countries aren't good enough at it yet
