lowrider or sportster. I would say a sportster 883 that is lowered front and back. I'm a male 5-8" and I would lower it as well.

If you have no experience, I would not recommend a Harley. I would recommend starting out on something between 250 and 500ccs. A sportster would be a heavy bike to start out with.
You should take a motorcycle rider training class (check out the DMV, local dealers, and http://www.msf-usa.org/ for classes). These classes allow you to learn the correct way to ride in a safe enviornment.
After the class, you should then find a small bike (250-500cc) to ride for a season or so to get comfortable with being on a bike. Then, you can look for a Harley.
I am a beginner rider, I have only had my license a month. The thought of being on a bike any heavier than my Honda CM400 is a scary thought! My bike is about 400lbs, a Sportster is about 500lbs. A harley is also expensive to repair! New riders are likely to drop their bike at least once.
If you are set on a Harley, you could look at used sportsters...just take someone who is experienced with bikes with you.

I would say an 883 Sportster. Depending on your height you might want to consider a Low Rider. The women I know who ride harleys all ride either a Dyna Low Rider or an 883 Sportster Low Rider. I would recomend starting with the 883 though, especially if you have never been on a bike before.

Best way to figure that out is to go sit on some different models at a dealer. Before you do that you might take their Beginners course to get a better feel for a bike. If they don't got time to show you around politely, go find another HD dealer. There are plenty around willing to help and service their product. One of my biggest recommends is shop for a dealer you like and think you can do business with first . I wouldn't necessarily get sold a particular model just cause it
might be termed "entry level" or Beginner's model. Something like the Sportster always gets misnomered as.
Ya and talk to alota female riders like primal28 they can generally give you better info than jerkzoids like me. You can probably find fem riders working at a dealer who would be happy to give you some pointers, I know my service writer has been damn helpful and she knows alot more current info than I do.

All right, seems like the question needs to be asked!! Are you asking this question because you have no idea about harleys and want to buy one. Or are you asking this question to start a debate. I think you know that No answer or response will be the same, as owning a harley is personal preference, if you want to buy the hottest Harley is the one that YOU like the most. In MY OPINION the new 2008 Fat Bob is pretty cool. Cheers Andrew

Hokiechick, give Primal28 the points and listen to what she said Everyone I know who gets the 883 or Sportster always say 'I wish I had got the next bike up like a SuperGlide or one of the Softail models". The Deluxe sits lower and like Primal28 said can also be lowered even more

Any of the Sportster models will work, but why limit yourself to inferior products? Check out some of the Japanese bikes (many of which have more american parts than Harleys).
