You are usually looking at around 300 dollars just for a plumber to start. Sound about right to me, however, it is highway robbery!

Not sure I follow the problem. Roto rooter is fixing a pipe under ground or above?
Where did it leak to? basement or what?
Did the low water pressure just start?
Just to start its a weekend price. So that can be 1 to 1 1/2 time over regular prices. Regular plumber gets about $110.00 hr week day. (my BF is a union plumber)
This is for all who hate the price of plumbing.
I know everyone complains about the prices and such...but he went to school for 5 years to become a licensed plumber. He worked full time while doing this, but didn't get the $$$$$$$ till he got his license. Takes another 5 years to become a Master plumber. Only he can pull the permits on jobs that are required for most ever thing. Replacing a toilet in many places requires a permit. Sounds silly but true.
Getting up off your couch and waddling in some other families sewage, cause the kid you were SUPPOSE to be watching just dumped your cell phone down the commode, is worth time and a half. But you didn't miss a play in the game. lol

You are talking to a plumber someone higher paid than a doctor. And he is there on a Sunday. Must be a big leak. He has to dig it up and pull the pipe and replace it. You got a deal.

I didn't think Roter-rooter was licensed to do this, if so, then it's Sunday and in the rain, maybe consider yourself lucky to get someone out. Although $250.00 for labor is about twice as much as normal, whatever it is to you.

what kind of pipe is it? copper, pex, sch40? should be no more than 80- 100 per hour plus parts. Roto-Rooter does tend to be more than alot of other places.

For Roto-Rooter, yes.
Wknd. charges can kill ya.
Did they have to dig in the yard? Then yes...
If a spigot or something else, probably not.
