With all of the beautifully talented African American women in the sports, dance & entertainment industry, why is there always a caucasian woman's face plastered on the front page .Just today on yahoo the report is that Serena is the favorite female athlete but Danica's name is the headline & Seren's pic is not even included in the spot. Is this an attempt to sway the opinion of what beauty is by saturating the media with blatantly unfair images of just one race of people?

A broad spectrum of people are invisible in popular entertainment, whether it comes to race, gender, age, physical and mental abilities, income levels or the merely ordinary. The industry perpetuates this myopic fantasy view of society, and it is supported by consumers who are satisfied that upper-middle class white is the default and is "normal".

I disagree about sports...I'm not so sure about entertainment...

it is all about who is ion at the moment...whether it was chris evert or flo-jo...serena and venus or danica...the attention comes and then they are all you see...then it fades and it is someone else...

if they are attempting to do so it is apparently not working, as you said more people like serena...and as for entertinment I think Tyra Banks has garnered much attention and is often considered on of the most watched and beautiful...Nicole Richie is on the cover of many mags and she is mixed...

I would say the sad thing is the lack of darker skinned black women in the media...

Do you only care about beautiful talented african americans? If so how are you any better than the media? That would mean you'd be okay with them if they unfairly portrayed your race. There are also tons of gorgeous asians, latinas, etc.

Fantastic question and excellent observation! You're spot on. The funny thing is, the media has to eat those pics and words when said celebrities find themselves in trouble.
Again, excellent question...here's your star.
