my son and his girlfriend are trying to rent an apt. but were turned down for a 1 bedroom, because they have a 18 month old son, and were told only 2 people per bedroom in Santa Clara County, is this true? They can't afford a 2 bedroom, they are only 20 & 22. They have found only a few they can afford with rent about $850.00, but have to move out this month and have no idea what the housing rules are. Any info or ideas would be very helpful, thanks.

most apartment complexex go by federal guidelines and all governmental funded housing apartments/houses low income complexes require children of different gender to have seperate bedrooms as well as seperate bedrooms for parents and children over the age of 1 year all rules and statutes that apply can be found on the state web site under HUD guidelines

Most places that I know of will only allow 2 persons in a one bedroom apartment. Santa Clara county does offer housing subsidies for low income families. Perhaps they would qualify for some help. Perhaps not as your son hasn't bothered to marry the mother of his child. See site below. Or they could move to some place where rents would be cheaper and they wouldn't have to depend on the public-at-large to support them and their child. Sorry if that sounds mean, but they should have thought of these things some 27 months ago, before they conceived a child to raise.

Or maybe they could just live with you.

Most places I know of use the two people per room rule. They will need to get a two bedroom as the child will needs his own space anyhow. Maybe since they are having trouble affording rent, they should see if there are any resources out there to help them.

sorry 2 tell you 2 per the laws of Florida but not sure if more allowed in different state. and that is the law of the State of Florida so if you say that there will only be 2 and there is 3 simply you could cause the community or land lord into trouble with uncle same.
