I will also be happy to see a more realistic relationship. Us is a lot more powerful than UK so it is inevitable that it will call the shots. This does not place UK under US orders ever. The problem is that US has too many people who will shout "Let's Nuke'em!" at the first sign of a disagreement. Many sections seem to be all for the "sledgehammer to crack a nut approach" which is often self defeating. The sledge hammer is there but loses its effect once it is used

Not less special, but I expect there will be a cooling, just because Gordon Brown is very different in his presentation than Mr Blair was. I expect Brown is used to saying no - not likely to go down well with Mr Bush, but I think John Major and Maggie Thatcher never kowtowed to the US pres. - Blair did it seemed, so I wil be happy for a more sensible US - UK relationship.

I once witnessed a speech by a senior US Military spokesman in London. When asked "is the special relationship weaker than it used to be?" he said "Absolutely not, we are as close to Germany as we always have been"
