You should always research any medication that you add to the water, as several can and will harm and kill your invertebrates. Depending on what you're medicating for, you should remove your snails into another tank - snails will be quite happy in a fishbowl marketed for goldfish (although it is cruel to put any fish in this type of container) and should stay there until the medication is out of the water, which should be stated on the label of the medication. Flatworm medication is especially harmful to invertebrates, including snails and shrimp and is even used to eradicate pond snail infestations.

But, you should also never arbitrarily add medication hoping the fish will get better. If you suspect any fish of having a disease, they should be quarentined in another tank away from the rest of your fish so they can be treated seperately, although in some cases you have to treat the whole tank.

Simply: do your homework before using any medication.

It really depends on what medication you are planning to use and what you are treating as to whether you should remove the snail on leave it in the tank.

Read the packing information and see if there is a warning concerning snails or invertebrates. If so you will need to remove the snail, if not you should be safe.

That depends on the medicine that you are using and what you are treating for. If treating for ich, your snails need to be quaranteened to ensure the parasite has died. Try using medicated foods instead.

Many medications will harm snails and other inverts. Know what you are treating for, read the directions and use accordingly.

yes, most meds harm and even kill invertebrates because they contain some kind of copper.
an even better thing to do its set up a hospital tank, and put the injured or ill fish in there. then medicate that tank. not the main tank. that way you wont wipe out all your inverts trying to fix a fish.
