Yes it's fine. If you are breastfeeding, doctors say that it is ok to have one alcoholic drink (not a double) and still breastfeed. Also, if you do get drunk, it is not necessary to "pump and dump" because alcohol flows through your blood and into your breastmilk and then will flow right out of your breastmilk, however you cannot breastfeed for 24-48 hours after getting drunk to give it time to get out of your blood stream.

All you're going to get is a lot of bizarre, self-righteous sanctimony on these boards when you ask this question. I think they are young people who were force-fed the "alcohol is the same as heroin" public service drivel in school as kids. I am 11 days post c-section. I have had a glass of wine on one occasion, and a beer on another. Many lactation consultants will tell you a drink here and there...beer in particular...will help with your let-down. Feed first. Have your one drink. Feed again normally two to three hours later. You do not need to "pump and dump". Alcohol clears out of your breast milk the same way it does your blood.
Below is a link to a calculator into which you input your weight and the amount you have had to drink, and it tells you when it's safe to breast feed again. If you're supplementing with formula or pumping and feeding like I am, it's convenient that you can use skip a breastfeeding if necessary.

Congradulations! I had my c-section 9 days ago.. I am not feeling up to par yet though.. but better every day! For drinking.. what you need to do is feed your baby first... have your drink and than don't feed her for 2 hours. After 2 hours you need to express your milk and throw it out and you are good to go again. That is what I have done in the past. Glad you healed fast! I am doing quite well too, hope by 11 days I am as good as you sound

You can have one drink and still breastfeed as normal. One will do nothing to hurt you baby. However, if you start to feel a little tipsy then you should probably wait until you feel normal again before breastfeeding. I occasional will drink a beer and it does not have any affect on your baby as long as you are being careful. One more thing- if you are still on pain meds from your c-section then you probably will want to forgo the medication for a while if you are planning on having a drink. Pain meds and drinking do not mix.

If you are having 1 drink, its not a big deal. If you plan on getting wasted then I heard you should be pumping and dumping your milk for several hours afterwards. Sometimes up to 2-3 feedings worth. Make sure you have a supply to feed the baby with.

I personally don't believe you should be drinking and breastfeeding. Everything you take in goes to your baby doesn't it? I guess there is a lot of conflicting advice on how long you should wait to breastfeed. Like 2 to 8 hours. Can you really stand to wait that long. And if you can't would you want to throw that milk away just to have a drink.

If you're breast-feeding, wait until the baby is either old enough to drink from a cup or switched to formula before consuming any alcohol.
Whatever you eat/drink/smoke, so does the baby...

If you're breast feeding you shouldn't drink at all. It would be like giving your baby the wine cooler to drink.
