What is a good, cheap book to learn some basic navigation (for minor/inland waters) from?

Navigation by Dutton is the one the US Navy uses as a text. The American Practical Navigator "Bowditch" is the other main stay.

The One that I would recommend Is "Chapman Piloting"
It is for Seamanship & Small Boat Handling.
It is published By Hearst Marine Books.

I really not know, above sounds good to me. Check on Amazon.com sometimes they have some used books a lot cheaper than new. But, shop around, I not say amazon have the best deal either.

Try your local Coast Guard Auxiliary or Power Squadron. They often have classes that cover local waters and regulations as well as safety and boat handling.
