Bad idea. You need a time out from being with the opposite sex, to assess where you've been, who you're with, who you are in the present situation, what you want from life,. what you';ll contribute to life day by day from now, and who you might want to accompany you on that life journey.
It;s drop the guy, and alone, go through a several month period of reassessing yourself and developing a good friendship with you alone.

Well, at least you aren't really going to die. It's up to you but think about if you might get back together with your ex-boyfriend after your break. Remember how in Friends Ross slept with another girl when he was on a break with Rachel? Rachel never forgave him and it really ruined their relationship.
