how do i make my dail up download at 56k per second not 5k?

why when i download things it only goes at 5k if it says dat the speed is 56k is there a away to speed it up

When they say 56k, they mean 56 kilobits per second, not 56 kilobytes per second. You are getting 5 kilobytes per second, which is about 40 kilobits per second. You will never get the full 56 due to certain, unavoidable factors, whether it be noise on the line or fluctuations in the propagation delay of the medium. 5KB/s (40kb/s) is actually pretty decent for dialup.

well 56k is the highest speed that dial-up is capable of going up to, but the download goes at 5k because mayb there aren't enough people seeding the file (if ur using a torrent program)

Dial-up is slow. Part of it is your proximity to the connection. For example, although my brother and I both had a 56k modem and dial-up, my speed was twice as fast as his because I live just a mile from the station, where he lives 10 miles further.

We have both switched to cable. A bit pricey, but important to us.

sorry thats not possible dial up is 56Kb (kiloBits persecond ) and when you are downloading you are downloading in kiloBYTES ok if your not following so far a byte is made up of 8 bits of information so ur 56kbs (kilobits) will only really if your close to the telephone exchange be 7kBs (kilobytes)

maths bit:

56Kilo bits / 8 = 7KiloBytes

so in total sorry but thats the max you can get out of a 56kbs but 5KBs is the average download speed
