I had a platy give birth to a fry about 2 weeks ago. In less than 48 hours after having the fry she seemed to just wither down to nothing (her sides were sunk in) and she died. Is that normal for fish to do that? I have another pregnant platy and was wondering if it was going to happen to her too.

It isn't exactly common, but it's not really rare either. It happens about 8-10% of the time with livebearers, so odds are really good it will not happen to your other platy as well. Sorry you lost your fish.

the fish was stressed out... she made too much effort to bring those babies home... try to leave the fish alone while in birth maybe she felt uncomfortable with you there

good luck bye

for a fish? I'd almost expect it. They are very weird creatures. Better left in the ocean, if only as food for the others!

Sorry about your loss tho...
