Yes, I'm an alumnus of Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. Greek Life at my college (Mississippi) was quite small though. Only 1% of all students attending (15,000 total) are Greek.

You should join for the right reasons, those being "brotherhood/sisterhood" in order for your social experiment to be valid. Otherwise, it's an exercise in ego. Integrate into society as if you have always been what your are today, your true self will then be accepted for who you are, not what you represent. If you push agendas on people, they freak out and you are chastised.

I pledged a sorority but they didn't take me. I'm probably better off not having partied all the time. But it was a total downer when all my friends got into theirs.

i did. it was a good experience for me. got me out of shy teenage girl shell. i did a few other things too. it was a positive experience for me.
