My son has been ill for over 3 years, with on-going medical bills piling up. We traveled to Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN last year, and all the travel expenses broke our bank. Our insurance barely covers the minimum, and it's over $40,000 in bills that we can't cover.

My husband has been working 3 jobs for 2 years now, but we're broke. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I've seen events like spaghetti dinners and dances to help with medical bills, and canisters on checkout counters at local stores, but those probably won't make a huge dent in $40K - could help some, though.

Also, some hospitals and health providers will reduce their bills if you ask, if you're paying them and not insurance.

Good luck, with your son's health and with digging out of the financial hole.

Reach out to local businesses. Get to know the local media and media personalities. Tell them your story.

There is an election coming up. If you live in a state that is important politically, take advantage of that too and contact the campaigns.
