My soul, because it lasts forever while my so-called life (in the body) does not. If I don't take care of my soul by trying to grow spiritually I may end up having to do this (learn these lessons) all over again, which is a fairly horrifying prospect.
Fortunately, I have had some guidance which makes it easier this time around, but it is my soul that bears a lasting imprint of what happens while I'm in the body, so that's what I concentrate on.

The soul is an inner quality that is you. Your life on the other hand is your position in the external world. You can have a great life full of money, power and fame and still have a restless soul, for example look at the young starlets constantly in the news these days for going to jail, rehab or stars committing suicide. On the other hand your soul can have joy and peace, even when the outside environment is at war. The soul is more important. Remember this paraphrased quote; "what profit is it for a person to gain the whole world, but lose their soul?"

me thinks i smell an essay (aka - school work, eh?) and how about the magic words, like please & thank you? they still work. now, which is more important: life or soul! let's see. i know i've got both so being a pratical person, i deal with the here & now. i've got rhythm, too but i guess you're not really interested in that. life my dear only comes once, a great & wonderful ride (of your life), costs a bundle to ride but what the heck, it's worth it. it's only one way, damn it! so, yeah! life is waaaaay more important than soul 'cause i know i've got soul (and rhythm, but then i've already told you that!). there are some who feel, however, rhythm & soul are together like ham & eggs, beans & bacon, etc. life, my dear, is like a piece of coal. starts off being black, shapeless/ without form. hold it into your hands, cultivate it just right and you end up with a diamond. mishandle it, and all you get is crappy dust and a snoot-full of at that! now, how's that for a really good (?) answer, huh?

My soul is the driving force of my physical life.
It encompasses all the intangible qualities of my being: my love; my hopes; my faith; my despair; my fear; and all the others.
It is my belief that after I shed my physical body, that my soul (weather a good soul or bad soul) will be protected and exist after my physical body dies, is buried, and turns back to dirt. My soul will remain in a cocoon state until it is ready to be ignited into a more glorious body.
In choosing to water my soul (in my physical body) I can choose to give it poison or good water to help it grow. The amazing part is when I choose to give my soul good water, and nutrients ... well, my soul them shares with others in other non-direct ways. Like my good soul growing is shade for the others around me ... it converts poisen into clean air ... just like tree's do.
Same as if I poisoned my soul ... well, this poison is like air pollution where everyone suffers. It starts choaking those around it, and eventually will spread and choak more than those near to it, but those far away. Kinda like global warming.

Your soul because it's immortal. This mortal life is not forever. When the body dies, the soul lives on forever.
That doesn't mean this life isn't important. Cherish every moment & live it to the fullest. Just don't get so caught up in worldly things that you forget what really matters.

According to the Aristotelian definition your soul is your life, that is its what animates you. Modern western people have this concept of the soul as being this separate part of us, the old "ghost in the machine" concept. Most students of philosophy that I know reject that idea.

The soul is, according to Aristotle, the animating principle of our existence-- it gives us life. It is the condition for the possibility of our existence. Could you clarify your terms? What do you mean by "life" and by "soul"?

Life and self awareness. I don't think in terms of a soul (and as it is defined by religions). ~

Our identity is found in our awareness
of life.
If we don't have that awareness, we
have nothing, neither soul nor life.
