I do agree. The both had more than amazing live experience. All very talented musicians and albums very well put together. Both different from their time.

No one can be compared to the musical genius of Pink Floyd. It wasnt just the music it was the time it was made. The social feelings at the time that were so well reflected by their music. I dont see any one doing that or even trying to do that today.
Now in the case of Tool, their Ok. Nothing more nothing less. Their good now. But wil they be good twenty years from now? Thirty? or even ten? I personally dont think so. Pink Floyd Achived that feeling of timless rock even when they were still popular. As they released new albums Dark Side of the Moon still held strong on the top 100 billboard for 15 years after its release. Most albums these days are hailed if they stay on for three weeks... much less two or three years.

In the end. No. they are not. Pink Floyd is a once in a blue moon kind of band that is so accesable to the general audiance. But still so mesterious even to hard core fans.

Okay, for the guy who said Tool is better, you're a retarded sheep f*cker.

Nobody can replicate what Pink Floyd did. That means nobody can be a Pink Floyd of today. When a band covers Comfortably Numb and it actually can be compared to the original, then you talk to me.

I've thought that before...but I also think that Type O Negative is the Pink Floyd of the metal world, like Tool is the Floyd of the hard rock world

I'm talking about subtle psychedelia, and aural landscapes that employ highly varied sounds in general, along with musical instrumentation, to produce a mindtrip

Tool??? Not even close!
I'm a person who grew up with Pink Floyd and have all their albums, but I have to agree with Sarah in that Porcupine Tree is the Pink Floyd of today and I'll go go one up in confessing that I think Porcupine Tree is better musically than Floyd.

I personally think Porcupine Tree is more the Pink Floyd of today. Steven Wilson's guitar style is very similar to David Gilmour's and Porcupine Tree (especially with The Sky Moves Sideways) really captures the long instrumental progressive beauty of Pink Floyd.

It depends what you found highlighted in the songs of Pink Floyd.
I think if anyone could be a modern Pink Floyd (if that's truly possible) then yeah, Tool would probably be it. Their songs can be trippy, hippy, or rock... they float around in those general sounds it seems. Plus, I bet they sound even more interesting when you're the one who's getting trippy. LOL

No there will never be another floyd. I think instead of comparing todays music with the past, just like and listen because you like them, not because they remind you of somebody else.

There are definite similarities in the sound and lyrics, but no one can replace Floyd. In any case, they're both great bands.
