Don't even use "computer speakers". Use powered monitors instead, like what a lot of musicians do, myself included. I use Behringer Truth 2031A powered monitors, but serious speakers and a power amplifier will work as well. Most computer speakers are just mediocre compared to this set up.

Take a music CD to any good computer store and try them out.
Then, decide for yourself.

there is a bose system built to hook up to computers, but my gawd the cost!

i use altec brand. you can hook up a amp to them.
