Yes. It was so scary.
If you are ever caught in a rip current:
Remain calm to conserve energy and think clearly.
Never fight against the current.
Think of it like a treadmill that cannot be turned off, which you need to step to the side of.
Swim out of the current in a direction following the shoreline.
When out of the current, swim at an angle--away from the current--towards shore.
If you are unable to swim out of the rip current, float or calmly tread water. When out of the current, swim towards shore.
If you are still unable to reach shore, draw attention to yourself by waving your arm and yelling for help.

Just ride it out. If you struggle against the tide, you will just get sucked under. Do not attempt to swim against the current. Simply try to float. Once the ocean has stabilized off shore, rip tides are narrow enough that you should be able to swim parallel to it in order to find a pocket without the currect and get back to shore. Otherwise try to float and wave your arms for assistance.

was swimming just off the shore of Maui, 20 foot faced waves , was being pulled further out by the under tow. waves were breaking on top of me, could not stay above water but 2 to 3 seconds before another one shoved me back down under water, was about to give up due to exhaustion from fighting my way back to the surface, my group leader came out and hauled me back to shore. that was 20 years ago, i aint been swimming in the ocean since.

well the best way of dealing with any sort of odd tide around you is to go with the flow...a rip current is scary as it seems to push you away from shore...dont fight it...in otherwords, dont try to go straight in against the current...just go with the flow of the current and swim to a side...soon you will get to an area where you have no push working against you and yu can swim in
