Is that still considered reading?

I don't know about the PC part, but as far as whether it's still considered reading, all information ingestion is reading. Reading is the act of interpreting, internally, with words. Decoding words to suit the meaning you ascribe to that information. That is true of TV, movies, and so on. You cannot recite any information, internally, or externally, without words. There is simply no meaning there if there are no words to attach to whatever it is. Blind people listen to audio tapes all the time...what are they doing? Aural cultures still exist...what are they doing? Reading is not simply scanning words on a page: reading is interpreting information of all kinds, including reading people's body language.

Your question aside, some people comprehend better when they hear things. So, you may have an advantage over those who have read the book. Besides, if ever you are asked "have you read the book", you can say no and still be able to answer question regarding the subject of the book. People will wounder how you know so much without having read the book. You'll look like a natural genius.

That depends. If it's a read-along book, then you're reading the book as you're listening to the audio. If not, then no, you're not actually reading, but you are gaining at least some knowledge of what occurs in the book based on how badly abridged it is. With an unabridged book, your getting the full book, so you have no reason to have missed any of the book.

Reading and listening are two different things. As far as being "politically correct", who cares? being politically correct is a sign of weakness, that means you watch what you say not to hurt society's feelings, it's spineless.

Yes.
Some people can retain more by listening,
than by reading.
In fact, many avid CD listeners call it
reading a book.
