I have a '94 Chevy Silverado ext. cab. I would like to install a late model corvette engine for more hp. What is the most straightforward swap? What will I need from the donor vehicle? I am at the "counting the cost" stage. I live in California and want to keep it smog legal. Thanks for any help.

O.K. I guess I was wanting the "cool factor" of a "Vette" pickup. How do I get smog legal and more hp. I have no problem rebuilding the engine. The truck is running o.k. now but that won't last.

Any sbc will bolt right in; if you're using a carbureted 'Vette, it'll actually be easier and cheaper than if you're using an injected 'Vette engine as you'll save a bunch of money on electronics. If your Silverado already has a sbc V8 in it, why don't you just add some hipo parts to it?

The 'Vette swap seems sort of redundant to me, as all sbc's are basically the same. You can use factory motor mounts, the transmission will bolt up, and there's no need to change any accessories. Good luck

get the entire corvette when doing this so you have all the support electronics and wiring.

Better pray the one you get is an auto as the manual 6 spd isn't a good fit to the tahoe and your tahoe tranny ain't up to the 6.0 L vette motor. Towing will end with this swap.

Why not a nice little supercharger instead. a home project week or a day in the shop and you will have all the power you could really want for street use. The extra coin could be a summer cabin or a boat????

You still have nearly twice the weight of the original vette, and typically those HP claims from GM are not what they claim.

Example:

ZO6, 505HP 0-60, 4.2 seconds
911, 355HP 0-60, 4.1 seconds

Someone, like the factory is either sandbagging, or someone has a WHOLE lot of parisitic losses from the engine to the wheels.

Just buy a sports car if you want to go fast, turn quick, stop quick.

Good Luck.

There are a lot of very powerful GM V8s that will fit in your truck, and probably be cheaper than an LS2 or LS6 Corvette engine.

Look into "crate" engines (everything included) from Jegs and Summit, some of them have obscene horsepower and the prices aren't bad. Many of them are simpler designs too, so you won't have to worry about engine management computers and all that.

Hell, id just upgrade the current enigne, im sure its a 350. Put dual exhaust, a super chip, a super charger and everything else you can think of, and i bet it is still under the price of buyin a vette engine, espcially if you are buying the car.

David, Crate and partial engines from Chevrolet now have 24,000 mile or two year warranty's. Their GM 2007 Performance catalog has specific part numbers for 350 and 383 motors which would fit perfectly and couple with your trans. with no trouble.

yep depending on the year and accessories from the vette you may have to fabricate or buy new motor mounts but most likely the motor will drop right in.

Get a supercharger. Plenty of power and you would save alot of money. Still though, I love the idea. good luck
