If you're paying a ticket then you don't go before a judge at all. You simply go to a tax collectors office or wherever the officer told you to go (there should be a list on the back of the ticket as to where you can go) and you'll enter a room similar to a dmv office. You go to the cashier and tell them you're paying a ticket, they take your money and put in the computer that you took care of the ticket. Take your receipt and you're done. If you want to challenge the ticket then tell them that at the cash register. If you challenge it then they'll give you a date to challenge. The first time you go before a judge it is to issue you plea, if you plead not guilty then you'll receive the actual date that you'll go back before the judge and have the opportunity to confront the officer you gave you the ticket. The officer will make his/her case to the judge and then you'll have the opportunity to question the officer and then you'll make your case to the judge. I received a ticket for having no registration even though the officer didn't ask me for it. I challenge it and made my case to the judge and he found me not guilty. If the officer doesn't show for the court date then you are automatically found not guilty.

You will have to pay a fine, unless you act like an asss. the judge don't like that and could give you jail time. So, when you go, act like a man and accept responsibility for what you did.

Usually you say, "yes, your honor, I did it." Then you get lectured about how you shouldn't do it again. Then you pay a fine and court fees, do community service, get put on probation, or other punishment.
