During World War II, the United States introduced the Atomic Bomb and used it against Japan to end the war in the Pacific. Germany was actually very close to developing an Atomic Bomb also, but the Allies were able to invade Europe and defeat Germany before Hitler had the opportunity to use the bomb. What might have happened if the Allies didn’t get to Germany in time? Where do you think Hitler would have dropped the A-Bomb if he would have had the time? How would it have changed World War II? How might it have changed the world today?

I don't believe Hitler would have dropped it on Russia. I believe he would have dropped it on London. The only reason the Germans were getting beaten so bad in Russia was that the western allies were bombing all the factories and supplies and munitions before they could be sent to the Russian front, thus the German army couldn't get re-supplied to fight of the Russians. Had Hitler destroyed London it would have thrown off the whole allied plans against Europe (cutting the head off the snake, almost) most of the Allied high command was stationed there. Plus like some people said, they would need a delivery system. London is allot closer than Russia is and Germany didn't have a long range bomber like the American B-29 (as stated before).

If the Allies hadn't gotten into Germany when they did, Hitler would probably not have committed suicide. His first target for the A-bomb would've been Russia, since their troops were coming in hard. This would have changed World War II, in that more forces would've had to come and put a stop to what Hitler created. The Jewish people that were saved would not be here today, and the war would have lasted a bit longer then anticipated. That's what I think.

Research shows Germany was never close to obtaining nuclear fission. But if they had, Hitler would no doubt thave dropped it on Moscow, or threatened to, in hopes of getting a separate peace.

Stalin no doubt would not have believed the bomb possible of the kind of destruction it would have caused and would have been nuked.

The Western Allies -- depending upon how far along they were on the Manhattan Project at this time -- would either have sued for peace, or threatened Berlin with a nuclear strike.

Germany never had serious hopes of developing the atom bomb, nor even a reliable means of delivering one, so this is an unlikely situation. Thank the gods!

Actually, the Germans weren't all that close to developing an atomic bomb. They were trying, but had a way to go. Hitler banned scientific research for two years at the start of the war (proof that he was out of his mind as a military tactician, etc.). If the research had been done BEFORE Hitler started the war and Hitler had obtained rockets, jets, and atomic bombs, he might have been unstoppable. Thankfully, that is not what happened.

Hitler actually pulled the plug on the atomic programme, believing his V weapons were more important than the "bomb".
After the war the allies found they were miles away from perfecting the bomb and what they had done had major flaws.
It is believed the German scientist's working on the project deliberately sabotaged their work so Hitler could use it.
London would have been one target, Moscow a second, but that is speculation.

Don't you just love the way that the Americans CLAIM to have invented the Atomic Bomb? In truth the basic theory was worked out by two German Jews working in Birmingham (England) University.

Unable to fund further development (due to more pressing matters--eg being at war) the British Government turned over the information obtained to the USA who then developed the device.

After the War the Americans shamefully denied the truth and refused to pass on their development work as they had promised to the British back in 1940.

Not surprisingly no British Government has never trusted the Americans with important information ever since.

Actually Germany wasn't anywhere close to developing a nuke. They put the project on a low priority simply because they expected the war to be over before it could be used. They were right, though for the wrong reasons. Had they developed a bomb, they still had the task of developing a delivery system. They had nothing remotely equivalent to the B-29. They did, however, have plenty of T-34's and tough Red infantry breathing down their throats.

Any country possessing an atomic bomb during WW II would probably have used it, provided the country had the ability to deliver it to the target.

If Hitler had possessed the bomb he'd probably have tried to drop it on Moscow, because his armies were collapsing in the East, and the retreat was a bloodier trail of rape, burning and death than Germans left behind them during their advance to Moscow.

If Hitler had managed to drop an atomic bomb on Moscow it certainly would have changed the aftermath of WW II, but probably wouldn't have changed the outcome.

Germany was not as close to developing it as you might think. Many German scientists sabateuged the research, not to mention the commando attack at the heavy water plant in Norway by the Brits, all made sure the bomb was not going to be under Hitler's finger. Targeting would've been either London or Moscow....

Without a doubt, germany would have won.

The inventer of blitzkrieg gudarian in his book actung panzer writes many times of wasted oppertunities of new weapons being underused when they first appear.
Gas and tanks were used in dribs and drabs when the were first used allowing the enemy to get a good look and devise countermeasures before the weapons could be used to proper effect.

This changed with blitzkrieg, hitler wouldnt have used 2 A-bombs,he would have used 22 in one great blow.

He would have used them to annihalate the red army,he would have nuked all major english cities including southhampton and other major staging areas,

He had a bomber that could reach america so american cities on the east coast would have been nuked also.
The is a good chance he would have supplied japan with the technoligy also so as to nuke the west coast.
