The exchange (http://www.sse.com.cn/sseportal/en_us/ps/home.shtml ) has two sessions (http://www.sse.com.cn/sseportal/en_us/ps/about/tcs.shtml ) each day. Ostensibly, this is to help keep track of trade clearing.

the stock market trading is stopped during 11;30am - 1:30pm.
