I noticed yesterday that my 2.5 year old betta fish had a swollen spot on the left side of his face. It is close to his eye so at first glance I thought it was popeye. However now that I have been able to get a better look it appears that he maybe had a cut which got infected. The sore itself is white and swollen. I purchased Hikari Betta Revive from a pet store which the lady there highly recommended. I have since placed him in a smaller container in order to keep the water as clean as possible. Any ideas on what else I can do or what this is that he has so I can prevent it next time? Here are some pictures of him : http://picasaweb.google.com/moikeyp626/Stu

Thanks!

That is a rather nasty bacteria infection that may also have a protozoan component. I would suggest you treat your fish with Flagyl (Metronidazole) if available and if not, Jungle Fungus Eliminator. Both of these contain medications for both bacterial and protozoan problems and either one should clear up the problem. Don't expect the damage to heal over night, that could take a several weeks, but the medications should improve the situation within a week.

Hope that helps
