my opinion is the only way to get over it is to just do it.
ask questions about the doctor, let them know your anxieties and tell them about your past experiences! i also used to hate the gyno but now understand its a way of life and i have to go. now i would rather die than go to the eye doc. hahahaah
your smart for wanting birth control. is there a family center locally that would give it to you? like a family planning center. ? they don't require an exam and they will check you out and give you birth control .
a pelvic exam is nothing really. takes literally 10 mins from start to finish and think of it as a BLIP in your day. you go in, get an early morning appt and you get it over with and you will smile when you leave. :) good luck

Ah come on, they are not scary at all. Get a female gynecologist, it'll help out a lot. If you have insurance then its really easy to choose and go through their profile online first. If you don't like her either then you can change anytime, and as many times you want. You have to go to get over ur fear its been 6 yrs and u know more now which helps in communicating better and creates an understanding bw the two of u. I tell everything to my ob/gyn she is the best. I trust her and she helps me out a lot in a lot of other stuff too.
Best of Luck.............

1) Find a different doctor. Plain and simple. I'm only comfortable around other women, so chose your doctor.
2) Don't be freaked out about this. You're taking charge of your sexuality by going on birth control, and you need to face the fears!
Just change doctors--some doctors are jerks. Others aren't. Just find someone with whom you are comfortable.
And technically you don't even have to go to an OB/GYN to get birth control; you can get birth control from your family doctor too.

If you go to a man gynecologist, there is always a woman in the room too. If there is not, question this. It will be over before you know it. They will do the pap, and probably check your breasts. They will feel around a little inside you to make sure you do not have any growths they can feel. It is all very professional and fast. Most women hate this. You will be fine. Ask questions if you need to, so you know what they are doing. You CAN do this.

ive never been because im only 16. call your dr in advance and ask if he needs to actually look at you or if you just can go in and go out of the office with your clothes on and get those birth c pills, because thats all your really there for. if you do need an exam, dont freak. just look at all the other s, they gotta do it too. its like when i first started using tp's.. i was scared out of my mind, but i just kept reminding myself that im not alone and all these other s have to do it too. also, this dr must see like millions of vj's anyways, and yours is no different. he wont hurt you.. especially since its a he. i heard that male obgyn's are more gentle then females because they dont know how much pain you can take so theyre extra gentle down there. drs on the other hand do know, so sometimes they dgaf. ive never been to one but if i do go i might get scared for like a second, until i realize that im not alone and its just something that everybody has to do so i might as well suck it up and get it over with asap.

Hi sweetie,
Dont be scared to go to the Gyneacologist. Unfortunately all us gals need to do this regularly to make sure we have no STI'S etc etc.
Im 24 and have been a few times. I was trying for a baby and have PCOS and therefore had to have regular exams.
Im sure they will find the right contraceptive for you and im sure you will be fine. Chin up hun. It'll all be over sooner than you think.
xx

Ask your friends about their doctors. Find out who is gentle and understanding. It is uncomfortable especially when you are self conscious but a good doctor can make all the difference. You might consider whether or not you would be more comfortable with a woman. I have not found them to be especially more sympathetic but again ask around.

I saw an old guy my first time and it didn't make me happy either. He had NO bedside manner at all. I switched to a woman and she is awesome!!! They know exactly what you are going through. I suggest finding a female doctor.

Get a friend to go with you or if you are close to your mom get her to go. Get information on a good OB and maybe consider a female doctor.
