**Update** I just checked the specs on the Dimension 5100, you have about 1.5" more height and width than the 4700, so it's probably not as tight a squeeze.

Yes, it will physically fit inside the case. I have a Dimension 4700 and recently tested an 8800gts. It's a double-wide card and it fit, leaving maybe 1/16" clearance to my soundcard in the last PCI slot.

However, the card generates a LOT of heat, and the small Dimension minitower case doesn't provide good airflow, so I can't really recommend it. After running it for an hour, I put my hand behind the video card and it felt like a furnace.

Forum postings seem to indicate this isn't that uncommon with the 8800gts -maybe it's not something to worry about.
Alos, I'm sure some brands run hotter than others... so depending upon whether you get an XFX, eVGA, BFG etc. you may be ok- I think the tiny Dell case on the 4700 makes things worse.

In any event, you WILL need a power supply upgrade from the puny 305w the system came with. Replacement Dell PSUs can be found at PC Power & Cooling- they are the Silencer series. Of course these Dell-specific models are twice as expensive as regular ATX psus...

Oh, the 8800GTS 320mb only requires a 450w power supply, not 600w.

the power supply is only 300 watts, u will need to get a psu with at least 600 watts to use the 8800. the 8800 prbly wont fit in the case anyways.
