I remember the country I loved as a boy. The US was more conservative and less liberal. There was decent television shows like Leave it to Beaver, there was no rap crap yet, and television was more censored. Then, liberals came along. Hippie liberals popularized drugs (drugs started to become popular in the '70s by hippies), invented political correctness (responsible for the wussification of America), and made the government tell kids that if their parents disciplined them by whipping them or some other way, they could get in trouble, so kids were no longer properly disciplined and could get away with everything, which is showing in todays liberal and very messed up society.

I also remember the country as a boy.

It was a country in which rank racism flourished with Jim Crow laws and where Blacks were still lynched, raped and generally used and abused.

It was a country in which hundreds of women died after being getting an illegal abortion.

It was a country in which child abuse and molestations was rampant but never spoken about ,never reported.

It was a country in which there was no social security or medicare and the lives of older citizens was extremely difficult and where any medical situation meant financial ruin for many.

It was a country in which almost everything that we see and hear going on today went on then but it was all kept secret and covered up The hypocricy was simply monumental.

It was a country in which the physical, mental and emotional abuse of women ,children and often men was commonplace and accepted by most in the society .I guess they were afraid of raising "wusses".

It was a country in which homosexuals were regularly beaten up and often killed.

It was not liberalism that so profoundly negatively changed some aspects of our society but rather simple greed and materialism and any person who believes such silliness is simply irrelevant.

Parents of all political stripes began to abrogate their all important role/obligation as parents.

In order to get that second SUV both parents began to work and the children were left increasingly to their own devises.Parents allowed and in many cases demanded that the school system take over THEIR JOB .The school system soon became a place for baby sitting, disciplining, sex education,moral/ethical instruction etc etc.

These parents did however realize that their neglect of their children and their responsibilities as parents was a fact/reality but instead of correcting the situation these parents, driven by quilt, became ludicrously permisisive as a means of assuaging their quilt which just made the problem so much worse.

These reprehensible parents (as many were and are) were more concerned about their children "liking them" and "being their friend" and in the process totally abrogated the very essence of what parenting is.

Only an ignorant pathetic political partisan would point a finger at liberalism or whatever for the negatives we have deveoped in our society.

On balance ,our society is much better today then yesterday .As we age,we tend to forget the horrors of yesterday and idealize the time of our youth .As the world gets ever more complicated, the cowards and the incompetent cannot/will not face the challenges of today but run back to the "comfort" of another era eventhough that era was worse then the one they are living in.

It depends on how you define liberals. Modern ideas about government and democracy that conservatives also embrace came from the "liberal" tradition in the 18th century. Adam Smith was very much an Enlightenment liberal, for example.

On the other hand, I don't think the ideal of the 1950s that you describe ever existed. Or if it did, there was consensus based on the pervasive fear of McCarthyism and the idea that consumerism, which you apparently believe has created a decadent American culture, and a society organized around the nuclear family instead of the local community represented postwar American ideals. In other words, we're talking extreme political purges and an exchange of community cohesiveness for commercialized culture. That's not my personal ideal, and I'd much rather have the mess we have today than the mess we had half a century ago.

Leave it to Beaver? Looks like you watch That 70's show. Come on. Okay some rap is bad. Not all though.
I'd like our television to be less censored still. The government hides everything from us. So, were you beat as a child, and you miss it? They have web sites for that, you know. I think the church holds us back. Everything in America, that has to do with sex, is bad. That is why there are so many sex crimes. We will advance and you certainly can't stop us. Though voting for George Bush helped slow us down. Thanks for that. Live for the future, not the past.

The 1950's Yes lets go back.....

Lets go back to Jim Crow, forced segragation and blacks as second class citizens, because this political correctness crap (aka good manners) has gone too far.

Lets go back to smog filled valleys, dumping ground rivers that catch fire and the imminent extinction of the bald eagle because the liberal green-nicks have destroyed America.

Lets go back and fire off a few nukes, because the liberals did nothing but coddle the communists. We are the most powerful nation on Earth, but Imagine how much stronger we would be now if we had wiped the commies off the face of the Earth 50 years ago.

Lets go back to cars without seat belts, airbags, safety glass, anti-lock brakes, stability control and get 13mpg - because the liberals made you pay for safe cars that got decent mileage. Besides, the extra 1,000,000 people that would die in traffic accidents in the next 50 years won't be you or anyone you know.

Lets go back to letting grandpa die at home at age 66 because there is no money to pay the hospital and no medicare. Liberals gave old folks a free ride, and no one deserves to live if they can't pay, even though every elderly person gets sick sooner or later.

Lets go back to to starving children, and poor that were really poor. Liberals have let poor people eat, have color TV and some even have air conditioning in their government issued trailers or apartments. And if that weren't bad enough, private citizens are actually building houses and giving them to poor people. That would never happen if conservatives were running things.

Yes, lets go back to the good old days before liberals ruined America. Leave it to Beaver was great, so it must have been exactly how America was for everyone in 1957

No the bickering between the parties is not allowing anything to get done in this country. Societies change, that is the way it goes. Nothing is going to stay the same forever. I do believe we have forgotten allot of morality in the country but to each there own. It is not me to judge one way or the other the liberals are not to blame and the Reps are not to blame the people are, because 9 xs out of ten the politician is just doing the popular thing to get reelected and tells us that the people are driving these problems.

Yes. Society is becoming more liberal. Remember though, that you would be considered a crazy liberal in the 1600s, because you believe in democracy (I hope). Sometimes it's better to get over it and go with the flow. If our ancestors had not, there would still be slavery, no votes for women, few rights for blacks (I only hope I can assume you think these are good things...). If you don't like it, you have voting rights, so use them. Being a far-right crazy didn't work for Louis XIV, and it won't work for you.

I think the Bush Regime has already ruined society. Look around and read up more on the Constitution, you will see he is a criminal and many others with him in his administration. I voted for him twice and wished I hadn't. Now, I want him Impeached. He has really ruined the Republican Party for what it was. It has turned more criminal these days as far as the members of government go. So, I think you need to rethink your question a bit. I have turned more Democrat these days because they are trying to some extent to hold these guys accountable for their actions while in office that violate our Constitutional rights.

Liberals? ...What I find most amusing, is when someone (like you) throws a label on another person, ignoring both the meaning of the word and the fact that the person being labeled doesn't agree.

When people can make up whatever meaning they want for the words and labels they throw around, those words become meaningless. Which devolves the entire conversation to mindless shouting.

Sorry things cannot be like they were in leave it to beaver....3 TV channels, mom doesn't work, no minorities. I think your idea of a Utopian society is "messed up."

No, they have not; cons share the blame for that one.

The days of "Leave it to Beaver" are mostly gone, along with the sexism, the sexual repression, the racism, etc.

FYI, I know PLENTY of conservatives who listen to hip-hop (which I can't stand, either) and who use cannabis. Ya. It's not just a lib thing.

And I know PLENTY of con parents who don't understand squat about raising kids; dragging around their screaming rug rats shopping and to restaurants, annoying the rest of us.

Don't go trying to hang all that crap on libs; it aint' gonna fly.
