A family drove to a location at 55 miles per hour and returned on the same road going 35mph. The total driving time was 3.6 hours. What is the distance of the location in miles?

Let distance be x
x/55 +x/35 = 3.6
(7x + 11x) /385 = 3.6
18x/385 = 3.6
x = 77 miles

55*t=d
35*tÂ´=d
t+tÂ´=3.6
55*t-35*tÂ´=0 and tÂ´=3.6-t
so 55t -35(3.6-t) =0
90t=126 so t= 126/90 and d= 126*55/90 =77 miles
