I have just recently discovered I am interested in an acting career. This is a shock to me because I am the type that is usually interested in less artsy things, so I have done hardly anything drama related. How can I get started from nothing?

Well, firstly, I would suggest doing a little search in the Yellow Pages for theaters around your area. There's bound to be one that offers lessons for newcomers!

I'm not sure how old you are, but if you're young, perhaps you might also want to search for a children's theater company. They often hold open auditions, and it'll definitely teach you more about performing.

Now, after you've done classes, and maybe a few plays, it's time to ask yourself this: am I a movie/TV star, or a Broadway baby? Or am I both? Once you have your answer, you'll be able to proceed to the next step: getting an agent.

Once again, it's time to break out the Yellow Pages. Search under talent agencies. You can probably submit your headshot and resume to the agency and inquire about getting an agent. Some agencies also allow you to give them a call to schedule an appointment. Once you have an agent, you'll be all set!

TWO THINGS YOU NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR ARE....

-Scams
-Rejection

Take an acting class. Call the theater department at the University, in the city where you live and ask them for names of acting teachers and acting schools.
