I need a name for our daughter (due in August) that is not extremely common. We like modern names nothing old fashioned, but nothing too odd either. Preferably something classy sounding. It also needs to be a name that can grow with her-something that won't sound childish when she's 30. We are having a hard time agreeing on a name (even though we know what type of name we want). I always look for names that have simple nicknames.
Evelyn gives you Evie for a young girl, but can be taken seriously for a young woman.
Margaret gives you Peggy (for some reason). Julie, Jules, Julianna, Abagail, Jennifer is nice, but much too common. Molly (or Mollie), Monica, Bethany, etc.
There's a reason some of the old-fashioned names are classics.
Congratulations, and good luck with the naming. I know how hard that is.
