Im not freaked about it, im just really anxious to find out of the mayan prophecy is true or not. I really dont know what is going to happen, so I just try to keep my cool and hope for the best. I have doubts the mayan prophecy is true, but im sure something will happen. Maybe politically.

No reason to worry.

If there was a large planet, star or something else that was "headed this way", we would have seen the effects already. We have good probes all over the solar system that are not being affected.

A lot of the earlier "planet x" thinking stemming from orbital irregularities has been resolved with the discovery of a large cloud of good-sized objects out past Neptune. Pluto, Eris and the rest of the Oort cloud make up a lot of mass that simply wasn't accounted for previously.

Just because someone's translation of an ancient folk legend says the end of the world is nigh doesn't mean it is. Of course, it could be -- but not because there's a big planet or star on collision course with Tulsa. The end of the world has been foretold about as long as there's been a world. Someday, it's bound to happen. But likely not because of Mayan, Sumerian, Heavens Gate or other legends.

2012 is from a Mayan calendar, and that was developed thousands of years ago. Sure, the Mayans were pretty advanced for the time, but they didn't have telescopes or any other of our modern observational technology.
And back then 2012 would have seemed like millenia away, so they could say anything and no one at the time would be able to tell them they were wrong.
But with our modern technology scientists have not found Nibiru (as its claimed to be in Sumerian texts) so I am not freaking, since there is no proof or evidence that anything like the end of the world will happen in 2012.
Look what they said would happen with Y2K, - and nothing happened (except some great parties).

This is the answer I gave to a 2012 question last night. I don't hold to any particular religion and that includes Mayan. So I will paste the answer I gave last night.

William Miller said that it will end in 1842.

The Mayan calendar ends in 2012. But it doesn't say that the world will. Why should we believe the Mayans anyway.

The asteroid coming close to earth will do so in 2029 and then again in 2036. There is about 1 chance in 10,000 that it will collide with earth.

There is nothing to be concerned about. There is no such thing as Nibiru, and the Maya calendar doesn't even end in 2012. It just ticks over the the next "baktun." Kind of like how we ticked over to the next millenium back in 2001. The world didn't end then, did it?

If you choose to be freaked out, then when the world doesn't end in 2012, I hope you'll remember how you were lied to and that you won't listen to mystics any more.

hard question to ask but here we go...

it says there will be a burst of light, that it will bright up the whole galaxy or universe. i think it is talking about a gamma ray burst, which happens after a red giant implodes on itself and becomes a black hole. (i need to double check that im taking this out of what i can recall at the time im writing this) we know those rarely happen, and according to astronomers one can hit us and cause mass chaos, but the chances are tiny.

It would suck because I graduate college in 2011.
Could spend those 4 years doing something more fun than studying if the world were to end
