Hey dude, I'm a bachelor too, and the girls laugh at my window "treatments" but they work for me.

First, I like curtains of different lengths on the same window. I have a window with some long drapes from ceiling to floor if I want to block out everything., and also I have some shorter curtains on the bottom half of the window, so it lets light in the top but gives privacy, and instead of a curtain rod I hooked together thin bungee cords with a support hook in the middle so they don't sag.
You screw loops (like on a screen door lock) at the edges in side the window frame. You could also use wire cable with those screw on stops at the ends that pinch the two wires at the end together.
I also get clearance drapes at Linen and Things when they put out the sale bins. I got really great stuff for about 7$ a panel.

Here is a simple solution for a no sew window treatment. Buy some nice table cloths at a discount store or on sale. Also buy some eyelet clip rings, and a curtain rod found in the curtain department of most "mart" stores. Measure your window. Fold over the excess amount of cloth and iron. Clip the top of the table cloth where you folded it. Slide table cloth on to the rod with the extra fabric facing the room. Hang rod. It will look like a curtain with a tier top. For curtain pull backs, go to the dollar store and get some fake ivy and wrap around the middle of the curtain.
