if it is a true zippo you would NOT use butane. Only lighter fluid preferably something made specifically for the zippo or that ype of lighter...butane will evaporate if not under pressure...it is not meant for Zippos.

Zippo lighters use lighter fluid, it is a type of diluted naptha. To recognize the fuel, look for the can with a flip open nozzle on top to squirt out fuel. If you're not sure how to fuel, open the lighter, grab the flame screen and pull it out of the base. there is a soaking cloth that maintain the fluid, to keep it from evaporating. Soak the wadding until almost full and replace lighter reservoir in outer case. WARNING: Naphtha fuel can burn skin if left on. After fueling, wash hands. Use caution when carrying in your pocket, as the fuel can leak from a damaged lighter.

Unless your Zippo is one of the NEW Butane-gas fueled models (ZIPPO BLU)... butane would never work.

Regular lighter fluid is all you need, just soke the cotton pad with it. Don't take out the cotton, that won't be too much fun.
