Both of them wrote wonderful symphonies.
Mozarts later symphonies are better, and the last three are considered his best (39, 40 and 41). The no. 40 in G minor is my own favorite, but the others are very good.
Mozart also wrote some wonderful piano and violin concertos.
Beethoven's 9th symphony is really a masterpiece. Especially when you consider that he was so deaf he couldn't even HEAR it! When he finished conducting it the first time, someone had to tap him on the shoulder to turn him around so he could see how wildly the audience was applauding. But it is so complicated that you can't really hear it all the first time!
I also like Beethoven's 3rd and 7th symphonies. But they're all great.
Beethoven's last string quartets are also considered some of the best ever written. His piano sonatas are also wonderful.
What's interesting is to hear pieces of music written by these guys in various parts of their lives. Mozart died young but began writing at a very young age so he had a long career. As he grew you can hear his music growing too, becoming more 'mature' and more interesting.
Beethoven's early works sound a lot like Mozart, because that was the kind of music people were writing when Beethoven started out. But Beethoven ushered in the 'romantic' period of music and his work also gets more interesting and more complex over time.
If you listen to these guys' music, you will find pieces you like better, your own favorites.
