It is a female vocalist. I don't have many of the lyrics, but the chorus has male background singers singing "wo oh oh" followed by a strong bam-like instrumental. I think the song mentions city lights, but i'm not sure. I know this sounds vague... it's a song I remember from when I was a kid, and I heard it briefly last night. I've always liked it and am going crazy now! haha

it is called "Self Control" and is sung by Laura Branigan:

Oh, the night is my world
City light painted girl
In the day nothing matters
It's the night time that flatters
In the night, no control
Through the wall something's breaking
Wearing white as you're walkin'
Down the street of my soul

You take my self, you take my self control
You got me livin' only for the night
Before the morning comes, the story's told
You take my self, you take my self control

Another night, another day goes by
I never stop myself to wonder why
You help me to forget to play my role
You take my self, you take my self control

I, I live among the creatures of the night
I haven't got the will to try and fight
Against a new tomorrow, so I guess I'll just believe it
That tomorrow never comes

A safe night, I'm living in the forest of my dream
I know the night is not as it would seem
I must believe in something, so I'll make myself believe it
That this night will never go

Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh

Oh, the night is my world
City light painted girl
In the day nothing matters
It's the night time that flatters

You take my self, you take my self control
You got me livin' only for the night
Before the morning comes, the story's told
You take my self, you take my self control

I, I live among the creatures of the night
I haven't got the will to try and fight
Against a new tomorrow, so I guess I'll just believe it
That tomorrow never knows

A safe night, I'm living in the forest of a dream
I know the night is not as it would seem
I must believe in something, so I'll make myself believe it
That this night will never go

Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
You take my self, you take my self control
You take my self, you take my self control
You take my self, you take my self control ...

p.s. she also wrote "How Am I supposed To Live Without You?" which made Michael Bolton a star

Here is what I do when I need lyrics. I go to all my search engines and type in lyrics and the name of the song. There may be several listings if more than one band/person covered the song. Also, it is good to know who wrote the song as that works much better than just an artist who recorded the song. Sometimes. I have to go to the websites that came up during the original search and just put the artist, author, or song title in their search engine ! Since you don't have much of this info, try just city lights or the genre of the music or even the time period. Many lyric websites have this capacity.

Sounds like the band Journey, the song City Lights.
Steve Perry the lead vocalist who has a superior tenor range. It is sometimes confused with a female voice. Go to journeyband.com and listen to City Lights and see if this is your song.

I think the name of the song is I Don't Want To Fall In Love. I can't remember her name, but i remember that she had a pierced nose with a chain going to her ear, some kind of weird mullet that was spiked on top with long braids in the back. I hope this helps, and someone will know her name
