most people have just 1 to 3 good friends in their entire lifetime, they keep them throughout life. Those are the people you can discuss anything with and that information goes no further than the walls fo the room they are in when it's said. They are the people who support you thru thick and thin, thru monetary need, thru deaths in families, thru job loss, etc etc. and you do for them as well. Usually these friends are people they went to school with, who were in the neighborhood, people they met thru their parents and relatives, or for some reason fate just brought them together.
People call acquaintences their friends in today's lifestyles and more times than not those friends at some point abandon them for a couple dozen reasons.

Yes, I agree friends are always there and nothing is more important to to them except a love. Then that is a judgement call. Friends don't discriminate because of beauty or sex, a friend is a friend no mater what and if they are needed they come.
To listen, to help solve for a shoulder to cry on, a friend is there.

Even when friends are far away or are gone from us their spirit is with us and remain our friends in our hearts. The essence of a true friend is not being there in good times only but also there and especially there in bad times . True friends lift us up when we are down and make us level headed so we dont become inflatedwith ego.

Friends are those that their presence activate and recharge us! Friends are those who are always present, even when we are far!
Great friends I consider those miraculous people of classic Greece who gave to me and the whole humanity the reasoning, ability to think, the way to freedom and independence, sciences, arts, ... the definition of friendship!
