The Moon is full for one instant in time every month. It occurs when the Moon reaches a point 180° in ecliptic longitude from the Sun.

That instant might occur at night or during the day at your particular location. The Moon "appears" full to the eye for a day or two on either side of that mathematical instant; but if you look very closely, you should be able to detect on which side of truly full the Moon is nearly all the time.

The phases of full moon and new moon are examples of syzygies, which occur when the Earth, Moon and Sun lie (approximately) in a straight line. The time between two full moons (or between successive occurrences of the same phase) is about 29.53 days (29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes) on average. This synodic month is longer than the time it takes the Moon to make one orbit about the Earth with respect to the fixed stars (the sidereal month), which is about 27.32 days.

The moon reaches totality (Fullest full) for only a brief moment but the day on which this occurs it is considered to be a full moon all day

A full moon happens every month and it lasts only one night. A blue moon is when there are two full moons in a month. For example, if there is a full moon on Halloween, then it has to be a full moon because if there is a full moon at the end of the month, then a full moon had to happen at the begining of the month. (except February)
