The IESB chatted with Marvel Studios CEO and film producer Avi Arad about the planned big-screen version of Thor, Marvel Comics' recently deceased god of thunder. Rumors swirled last week that screenwriter David Goyer (the Blade trilogy, Batman Begins) was onboard the project. Arad confirmed that for the IESB. "Thor is being written now. Actually, David is going to write it," Arad said at the premiere of Blade: Trinity. "He is a Thor fanatic for a long time. He's going to write it."

Poseidon scribe Mark Protosevich has now taken over the Vallhalah (sp?) assignment.

What I find interesting is how he describes the project. I'm not a Thor fan, but I'd be curious to see what Thor fans think of this. The following is from the good folks at AICN:

"In the comics, the stories that appealed to me most were the features called 'Tales of Asgard,' " CAA-repped Protosevich said. "They were very much based on the traditional Norse myths and how the relationship between being like Thor and Loki and Thor and Odin, and how these beings manifested themselves. I don't want to give too much away, but I will say the movie will take place in the world of myth and legend but will not betray some of the thematic elements of the comics that made them so appealing, like the idea of a god growing to truly understand man."

It should be out in 2009

Adventures in Babysitting doesn't count? lol

I don't know if they'd make a comic book movie of Thor, only because it is part of a genuine myth, and therefor might be considered disrespectful or something. Now, if they use the myth instead of the comic book it would be pretty funny to see the tale where Loki convinces Thor to dress in drag.. (to get his hammer back).. but, it sounds like something more Monty Python esque then it probably should be.
