In general, bullies are lonely people with low self-esteem who don't have the social skills to relate to others properly. Here is a website that might help: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/feeling/emotion/bullies.html

Laugh at yourself and then try redirecting the bully's thoughts to something else.
Try to find another person to negotiate some form of settlement.
There are some video modeling instructional materials called BeCool! by Stanfield Films. There may be other social skills items available. I suggest looking on the web for some techniques, usually through Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Good luck!

I learned that bullying is a means to intimiate and control as a means of making one feel empowered and strong. And since I like to be in control of myself, I learned to walk away when ignoring would not help. I learned to smile, look the person directly in the eye, and say, "no way." If the bully uses insulting words, I learned to say "thank you" or "I appreciate the compliment" or "I resemble that remarks" as I walk away. And I have never been hit by another person in my life. Standing up to a bully consistently is the only measure that has a lasting impact as the word gets around that you are not a target.

Going along with the crowed is not the best way either, bullies thank their right about ever thing, ignoring them makes them think their that much more right and a bigger bullie. Always speak your own mind and let others do the same thing, right or wrong you still stayed true to yourself and have not give into a bullie that is never as smart as he thinks he is.

Confront the bully. A bully usually is someone who thinks that making another feel small by intimadation, makes him or herself feel big (authorative). Take the power away from the bully and the bully will slink off like the coward that he or she is. If need be, call the police. Good luck with this.

Here in the Internet the best way is to ignore them. It drives them crazy, because what they want is attention and they just can get it, by insulting others.
Unfortunately, there will always be someone answering their "questions", because, unless you are a regular in a certain category, it is hard to notice who is a bully and who is just having a terrible bad day.

Ask questions about what the person feels like after doing some stupid behavior. Be careful the questions are just curious and contains no challenge or judgment.
