I am auditioning, very soon, for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I know little of this show, but have listened to the music and really love it! I would LOVE to be cast as the narrator, because I am a soprano. But, I know the director and he is not fond of me. What can I do to really "wow" him in the audition? How can I prepare? What songs do you think they would use as an audition piece? (They decide for us). If I am not cast as the narrator, what other good parts could I be excited to get? What else can you tell me about this show? Thanks so much! :-)

I do indeed love to act...but I think that I might be a stronger singer... however, I am open to any acting or singing suggested roles. Thanks again!

Go in with the attitude that you have nothing to lose and you're going for broke. As for other roles for you, there's only Potipher's wife which is a fun acting role, but no real singing. The wives of Joseph's brothers don't do a heck of a lot, a little dancing and one gets to do the "ahhhs" in "One More Angel In Heaven"

What songs might they choose for you to use to audition with? That's strange that they will chose for you, but possibly a part from "Jacob and Sons" for the Narrator. As for what to wear, they usually dress the narrator in sparkly outfits, but if the director doesn't like you just wear something nice, maybe bright but use your best judgement there. In preparing, I wouldn't watch the movie that was made. I don't really care for the performance given by the Narrator in that film. Her interpretations of the music is my least favorite of all the ones that I've heard.

Personally I love this show. I hope they do a children's chorus because I think it's missing something in productions where they choose not to. It's a lovely way to make a bible story come to life.

i was in this show in high school and it was A LOT of fun - one of the best things about this show is the fact that there are a lot of equally important parts - yes Joseph and the narrator are kinda the 2 big stars, but it is a great ensemble show. I played one of the brothers and it was so much fun. I would listen to the music again. try to get a real feel for the pace and style of the show. hard to say what they will choose for songs - probably Broadway songs of a similar style - maybe from the show. Good luck - i would suggest when you get the song - memorize it and audition with lots of energy and a BIG smile

If you're auditioning for the narrator, they might have you sing the beginning of "Jacob and Sons" or the opening of the show. Another fun part for girls is Potifer's wife and even though it's not really a singing role it is really a nice acting role. Break a leg!

In this retelling of the Biblical story, Joseph is a handsome young man who is his father's favorite child, able to interpret dreams, and the bearer of an amazing coat. These facts lead Joseph's eleven brothers to become insatiably jealous. Thus, they sell Joseph into slavery to some passing Ishmaelites. After refusing the advances of his owner's wife, Joseph is sent to jail. Once in jail, he quickly becomes popular due to his ability to interpret dreams. The Pharaoh soon hears of Joseph's ability and appoints him to the post of Number Two man in Egypt. Years later, Joseph's now starving brothers arrive in Egypt and ask Joseph, whom they don't recognize, for assistance. Joseph, in turn, gives his brothers a scare, but eventually grants them all they desire, reveals his identity, and reunites the family. Dancing in the show requires all types of styles.
