I use Dean Markley Formula 82/R (10-48) on acoustics, D'Addario XLs (9-42) on Strat, and Ernie Ball...something-or-others on the 12 string :)

Reasons for all of them are the same, just combination of feel, tone, & durability.

(Disclaimer: Everyone swears BY their stings, and swears AT everyone else strings ;) Just keep looking and experimenting until get a batch right for you. Good hunting.)

The choice of guitar strings depends on personal preference, tone, the type of guitar you are using, the tone you want, the type of pickups, the type of amplifier... etc., etc., etc.

I use D'Addario, Dean Markeley, sometimes Maxima (but always go one gauge lighter because Swedish steel tends to have a higher tensile strength), and "DR" strings. Also a whole bunch of different brands for acoustic guitars.

You need to experiment a little bit with what you use, but NEVER switch prior to a gig - you could seriously regret it if the strings aren't right for you, if the gauge is too heavy, etc. (I know this from personal experience!). As long as you stick to the name brand strings you should be OK. Some string manufacturers even allow you to be a "kit" that has a dozen sets in it if you don't mind not having a box for them to come in. This is a lot cheaper, but unless you go through strings a lot it might not be worth it because strings do "age" over time, so it doesn't pay to store them for years. Hope that helps.

Ernie Ball all the way. I've tried other brands, but keep going back to the EB. They've never let me down, good tone, long life. You can't go wrong.
