Interesting question. As a Brit married to an American, and also a comedy geek, it does raise its head. My wife doesn't "get" most British humour. I like quite a lot of both, from Tony Hancock to Bill Hicks. Seems to be a generalised breakdown that the UK likes its comedy heroes to be likeable losers, and the US prefers positive, aspirational comedy. (Surrealism of course is one area where we appear to have a common ground, because the Ministry of Funny Walks is a hell of a concept, no matter which country you're in!)

As I say, there's good and bad in both American and Brit humour, but humour is humour if it makes you laugh, no matter where you're from, or where IT is from. So, essentially, 'both' is my answer.

Ni!

What I've seen of British TV humor, such as "Are you being Served?" is a bit over done. My British friends on 360 have great senses of humor. They are great!

I think I prefer British humour - but maybe that is because I am more familiar with it.
