It is very difficult to avoid sticky situations, when friends borrow from one another However, sometimes there is no where else to turn . I have been on both sides of this issue, and luckily, it has worked out well for for all parties involved. I do not think that your friend should write the money off as a loss just yet. Your friend (the lender) should approach her friend (the borrower) and explain her financial problems. I think if she said, she realizes that she did not give any time frame on the money being paid back, but it has been a year, and could payment arrangements be made? Your friend could also say, that she does not want to pressure her for the money, but any monetary help would be greatly appreciated. Your friend could say that she does not want the loan to become between them, but she would be grateful for any small payments, and maybe work out a mutual payment schedule. If your friend demands the money, the girl who borrowed it may take offense, and never pay a penny of it back. Advise your friend to speak to her friend, and try to arrange a payment structure that would work for them both. You really do not want your friend to argue, or have a fallout, or she might get burned. If something could be gotten in writing as far as payments, that would be wise.

The perfect opportunity for your friend to talk to the Borrower about repaying the $2,000 is when the Borrower is talking about the newest, latest purchases/expenditures. That is the time to speak up, mention that it appears that the financial hardships have passed and lets talk about repayment of the loan. Your friend has nothing to feel squirmy about - this was a LOAN not a donation. It is very important that your friend talk to the Borrower in specific terms about the repayment - it should not be left in vague, undefined terms.
The terms of repayment should be put in writing - your friend could say something like: "Just so we both remember what we talked about today, let's write it down...we're both busy people and this way we won't forget what we've decided would be a manageable repayment of the loan."

First off, if you want to keep your friendships in tact, don't ever lend them large sums of money and then say there is no rush to pay it back. The person who borrowed the money sounds a little self centered and clueless if she hasn't figured out that the person she owes money to is a little hard up for cash right now. The two of them need to sit down and discuss this without a third pary interference to set up a plan for the money to be repaid.

She can ask for the return of her money. No question about that. If the debtor refuses to pay, she can bring a civil action for collection if your friend has a written promissory note signed by the debtor.

i'd ask for it back.
not in a rude way or anything but just sit the person down and explain.
they should be more than willing to oblige considering your friend made such a big sacrifice for them.
$2000 is a lot of money.

first, she should quickly speak with that person who borrowed the monies! arrange a weekely or twice monthly pay schedule,in writing! as for the borrowere its obvious she is selfish and lazy! your friend should not allow that. make sure the loan given has papers regarding the payback..hard lesson learned believe me! goodluck to all
